Comparison of the Efficacy of Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) and Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) Staining Techniques in the Diagnosis of Typhoid Intestinal Perforation (TIP) among Patients Attending Federal Medical Centre, Keffi Nasarawa State, Nigeria

Aim of the Study: To compare efficacy H&E and PAS staining techniques in demonstration TIP among patients attending Federal Medical Centre Keffi, Nasarawa state. Study Design: The study is a retrospective study, total 129 paraffin-embedded tissue blocks who were diagnosed between January 1st 2013 December 31st 2022 retrieved from archives Histopathology laboratory examined. Ten (10) with incomplete data excluded.
 Methodology: A semi structured questionnaire was used to collect demographic data. sectioned at 4um stained using Haematoxylin Eosin (H&E) technique Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) technique. microscopic examination done x10 x40 objectives Olympus light microscope.
 Results: showed that males more affected than females ratio 1.6: 1. Ages ranged 6 months-77 years mean age 24.8+1.87 years. highest number cases recorded December. ileal segment most perforated intestinal segments. socioeconomic status patients, availability potable water supply as well hygiene sanitary practices discovered be key factors typhoid fever infection treatment outcomes.
 Conclusion: Although, both favorable features, gave better contrast also revealed perforation sites P<0.001. Hence, should alongside investigation tissues.
